Ivanhoe was Ready for Freddie!
ORLANDO, FL (December 8, 2003) -- Ivanhoe Broadcast News, one of the country's leading newsgathering organizations covering medical information for television stations, and health news and information websites has been nationally recognized for their commitment to excellence. Ivanhoe currently reaches over 80 million households through their broadcasts, in combination with http://www.ivanhoe.com, and its use of streaming media (Windows Media) viewers can gain access to our life-changing reports anywhere, any time.
Congratulations to a dedicated organization that has just been awarded its first FREDDIE. The competition's goal is to encourage and celebrate the excellence of a variety of media throughout the world; media that is dedicated to exploring the health-related issues that change people's lives. Ivanhoe's award-winning three-part series on type 1 diabetes has not only helped to save the lives of those "Waiting for a Cure," it was just what the doctor ordered for Ivanhoe Broadcast News.
Seventeen million Americans suffer from diabetes; 112 are diagnosed every hour -- that is an alarming 2,700 per day. Stacie Overton, producer of the award-winning reports and Ivanhoe's Director of Medical Programming, knew it was time to help those waiting for a cure to become one step closer to their goal; and the FREDDIE judges concurred. For the past 29 years, the FREDDIE Award's have established an industry standard, which entails rigorous judging -- conducted by medical and production professionals across the country. What they did not know was Overton, who also wrote the series, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 12 years ago. "To do a series on a disease that I have been battling most of my adult life gave me a unique point of view. I took nothing for granted and diligently researched every bit of information. To be awarded a FREDDIE has been a highlight in my life, to win it for something that I live with everyday is monumental."
From its beginning in 1978, Ivanhoe has earned its reputation for providing television stations with creative, top-quality and thought-provoking news stories that offer viewers the latest breakthroughs in medicine, tips on staying healthy, and advice for women. On November 7 Stacie Overton and Marjorie Bekaert Thomas, President of Ivanhoe Broadcast News, flew to Los Angeles to receive the much-anticipated award. The black-tie gala was held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel where MediMedia and its Academy of Judges awarded the bronze statue. Among the winners were ABC News: Primetime Thursday, Dateline NBC, TLC, and Discovery Health Channel.
Thomas says, "Ivanhoe has always dedicated itself to bringing life-changing information to the world. To be rewarded for our mission, is an absolute honor. We are very proud of the FREDDIE, and we will never give up our quest to research and report life-giving information."
